A rock overhang at nearby Ketley Crag has examples of pre-historic rock art petroglyphs, including a profusion of cup and ring marks.
It is the site of Hetton Hall, owned by descendants of the soldier Sir Thomas Grey whose expolits were recorded in the Scalacronica chronicle.
